The first part of the “Training of Trainers (ToT) on Good Refrigeration Practices and Safe Handling of Low-GWP & Flammable Refrigerants” was successfully completed in Manila, Philippines, from 24 to 28 August.
The programme was organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization – Philippine Office (UNIDO) and Centro Studi Galileo, in collaboration with TESDA – Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. The training took place at TESDA and involved 50 trainers in this first phase.
During the five-day programme, participants took part in both theoretical and practical sessions, with the opportunity to exchange experiences, strengthen technical knowledge and apply the skills acquired directly in the training environment. The course focused on Good Servicing Practices in the HVAC/R sector and on the safe handling of natural, low-GWP and flammable refrigerants, with particular attention to hydrocarbons.
The initiative represents an important step in strengthening the capacity of refrigeration trainers in the Philippines, supporting the development of safer and more sustainable practices in line with the transition towards refrigerants with lower climate impact. In this context, training trainers is a key element: the knowledge acquired can be transferred to technicians, training centres and local operators, multiplying the long-term impact of the programme.
The first session also offered a valuable opportunity for professional exchange among experts and participants, confirming the importance of international cooperation in building technical competence for the RACHP sector.
A second part of the programme, also expected to involve around 50 participants, is planned between September and October. The continuation of the initiative will further support the development of local skills and contribute to safer, more efficient and environmentally responsible refrigeration and air-conditioning practices in the Philippines.
