From the Embassy of Italy in Bangkok we publish:
We’re glad to publish Italian Ambassador Paolo Dionisi’s speech about the International Special Issue of Industria & Formazione, marking its tenth edition. Ambassador Dionisi reflects on Italy’s active role in the global energy transition and the significance of the HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) sector in addressing climate and energy challenges, and emphasizes Italy’s achievements, including reaching over 40% of its energy mix from renewables and Italy’s push for international cooperation, exemplified during its G7 Presidency. Dionisi advocates for a just, technology-neutral energy transition and highlights Italy’s commitment to a sustainable and collaborative future.
Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great honor for me to attend the launch of the International Special Issue of Industria & Formazione, now in its tenth edition.
I would like to thank the Centro Studi Galileo and all the organizers for making this event possible and for their ongoing commitment to the HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) sector, which plays a crucial role in addressing global climate and energy challenges.
I am particularly proud of my Country’s contribution in this field. Italy, as the second-largest manufacturer in Europe and the fourth-largest trading power in the world, feels a strong responsibility to promote a fairer and more sustainable future. This responsibility guides our national and international policies, especially in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Italy is at the forefront of the global energy transition, showcasing a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation to achieve net-zero emission future by 2050, while ensuring security and competitiveness of energy supplies.
In the last years, we have made remarkable progress in expanding our renewable energy capacity. Recent data show that renewables now account for over 40% of the Italian total electricity mix. This achievement underscores our commitment not only to meet our national goals, but also to set an example for others in the global community.
Our commitment to the energy transition was further emphasized during our G7 Presidency, where we highlighted the importance of international cooperation. Italy actively promoted initiatives aimed at fostering partnerships to drive renewable energy development, enhance energy efficiency, and support climate resilience globally.
A significant focus was on enhancing energy storage systems and extending grid infrastructure, as outlined in the “Carta di Venaria” (Venaria Charter) at the end of the G7 Energy and Climate Ministerial Meeting. We set ambitious targets to increase energy storage capacity at global level to support the integration of renewable energy sources and improve grid flexibility reaching COP28 GST outcomes on tripling renewables energy globally by 2030.
We firmly believe that the energy transition must be just and inclusive, not only ecological but also equitable. It is essential to promote a technology-neutral approach that fosters international cooperation and economic growth for the benefit of all.
We are especially eager to collaborate with our Thai partners to reach these ambitious goals together.
Thank you again for the invitation, and I wish you all a successful and inspiring event.
–Paolo Dionisi, Italian Ambassador in Bangkok
