AREA has officially joined the global community of the ASHRAE Associate Society Alliance (AASA), marking a further step in the international positioning of the European HVAC&R contracting sector. The announcement was made during the AASA meeting held in Las Vegas, where AREA presented its role and mission as the European federation representing contractors and installers active in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump technologies.
The inclusion of AREA within AASA reinforces the dialogue between regional and global stakeholders at a time when the HVAC&R sector is facing shared challenges, from energy efficiency targets to skills development and the deployment of sustainable technologies. By joining the Alliance, AREA contributes the perspective of European contractors, whose daily work translates regulatory frameworks, technological innovation and market requirements into practical, on-site solutions.
Created in 1962 by ASHRAE, the Associate Society Alliance was established to broaden the exchange of knowledge and ideas among engineers and professionals engaged in the arts and sciences of HVAC&R. Today, AASA acts as a platform for cooperation among associations worldwide, fostering alignment between global objectives and local implementation.

AREA’s participation strengthens this mission. Founded in 1989, AREA represents 26 national associations from 22 countries, including 19 EU Member States. Through its members, AREA speaks for approximately 13,000 companies employing around 110,000 people, with a combined annual turnover approaching €23 billion. This makes the federation a key interlocutor on issues related to technical standards, training, certification and market evolution in Europe.
Joining AASA opens new opportunities for international cooperation, peer learning and coordinated responses to global HVAC&R challenges. In particular, it supports closer alignment on energy efficiency strategies, workforce qualification and the transition toward low-impact, sustainable systems. AREA’s presence within the Alliance confirms the growing importance of contractors and installers in shaping effective, resilient and future-ready HVAC&R solutions at a global level.
