The new 2026-27 edition of the International Special Issue of Industria & Formazione was officially presented on 5 November 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda, during the 38th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol – MOP38. The 11th edition of the international publication is dedicated to “The Future of Refrigeration and Sustainable Cooling” and brings together contributions from some of the leading institutions, associations, universities and experts in the global RACHP sector.
The 2026-27 International Special Issue was produced by Centro Studi Galileo, in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security – MASE, the United Nations Environment Programme – UNEP, the International Institute of Refrigeration – IIR, the Air conditioning and Refrigeration European Association – AREA, and the Renewable Energy Institute – REI.
The launch took place during the side event “Certification and Training Across Continents: Progress and Future Scenarios on the 10th Anniversary of the Kigali Amendment”, organised by Associazione Tecnici del Freddo – ATF. The International Special Issue was presented by Marco Buoni, Secretary General of ATF and AREA Board Member with responsibility for International Affairs, together with Yosr Allouche, Director General of the International Institute of Refrigeration – IIR.
The 2026-27 edition has particular significance as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Kigali Amendment, one of the central themes of the publication. The volume addresses the main transformations currently affecting refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps: the HFC phase-down, natural and low-GWP refrigerants, energy efficiency, circular economy, training and certification, the fight against illegal trade, technological innovation and the development of sustainable cooling systems.
The publication opens with forewords by Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Italian Minister of the Environment and Energy Security – MASE; Patricia Kameri-Mbote, UNEP; Yosr Allouche, IIR; and Marco Buoni, AREA.
Contributors also include representatives and experts from UNEP, IIR, AREA, DG CLIMA, ASHRAE, World Bank Group, AHRI, U-3ARC, Tsinghua University, Eurovent, JRAIA, AIRAH, ACAIRE, ISHRAE and many other international organisations, providing a global overview of the future of sustainable cooling.
The presentation at MOP38 therefore marked another important moment of international dissemination for Industria & Formazione, confirming the role of the International Special Issue as a platform for technical and scientific discussion on the technologies, policies and skills that are shaping the future of refrigeration.
